Sacha Baron Cohen pulls numerous pranks in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, so how have the victims reacted? The 2020 Borat sequel once again follow the misogynist Kazakh journalist, who travels to the United States and learns valuable life lessons about American culture. Borat 2 released in October 2020, just weeks before the U.S. presidential election, and features controversial pranks on unsuspecting politicians.
Directed by Jason Woliner, Borat 2 primarily centers on the relationship between Borat (Cohen) and his 15-year-old daughter, Tutar (Maria Bakalova). In America, Borat plans to bribe politicians for the Kazakhstan government, and eventually decides that Tutar would be an ideal gift. The mockumentary follows the father and daughter duo as they prepare to meet powerful U.S. politicians while having enlightening conversations with random folks along the way.

The most talked-about prank in Borat 2 involves Rudy Giuliani, the personal attorney of U.S. President Donald Trump, who expressed his displeasure on social media about being tricked by Cohen and company. Aside from Giuliani, the mockumentary’s targets are mostly regular Americans who agreed to be on camera but didn’t read the fine print. Here’s how the victims in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm have reacted since the mockumentary released on Amazon Prime.
James Connor Blair
In the third act of Borat 2, Cohen’s character befriends a couple of conservative gentleman, Jerry Holleman and Jim Russell, who appear to be QAnon enthusiasts. The men discuss how Bill and Hillary Clinton made “the plague” (COVID-19) and later sing “The Chinese Virus Song.” While both Holleman and Russell appear to be in on the joke, the sequence sets up a real-life prank where Borat performs at the conservative March for Our Rights rally in Washington D.C.
Cohen’s prank didn’t go over for Washington city council member James Connor Blair, who expressed his displeasure on social media, stating “Sacha Baron Cohen pulled a bulls**t stunt at the March for Our Rights 3 event. Disguised as a PAC out of Southern California, paid for the stage setup and musical entertainment. Came on stage disguised as the lead singer of the last band, singing a bunch of racist, hateful, disgusting s**t.” Blair went on to defend organizers of the event, and described the prank as “a smack in the face.”
After Tutar eats part of a cake and accidentally swallows a plastic baby in Borat 2 , she and her father visit with Jonathan Bright, the founder and executive director of the South Carolina Christian organization Faith for Fathers. The situational comedy involves Borat giving the impression that he impregnated his daughter, leaving Bright to rely on this faith: “God is the one who creates life. And God doesn’t make accidents.”
As of November 2020, Bright hasn’t offered an official statement about his appearance in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. According to the Faith for Fathers website, the organization “strives to empower dads to lead their families, live out their faith and leave a legacy that honors God.”
Early on in Borat 2, Tutar receives guidance from various women who can help make her more appealing to American men. She first meets with Instagram Influencer Macy Chanel, whom Borat describes as “one of American’s leading feminists.” As it turns out, the joke is that Chanel provides questionable advice to Tutar, urging her to be “submissive” in her attempts to be a “sugar baby.” Borat’s daughter then attempts to impress the influencer by opening a bottle of beer with her “small hole.”
On Instagram, Chanel acknowledged her appearance in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, stating “Shocker, I was featured in Borat 2 earlier this week. I just watched it – it is #hilarious, as expected from @sachabaroncohen. Just like Tutar, I stayed in character throughout the entire time.” Later, Chanel offered some more insight about the experience (via Indiewire), which – according to her – was for an upcoming Netflix series:
“I was misled into playing a role and being cast as someone that does not reflect who I am. I have enjoyed a successful modeling an acting career where I can play any role given. In this case and probably many others I did not read the ‘fine’ print.
Will Davis And Dr. Jean Sheffield
Shortly after meeting with the aforementioned Bright in the Amazon Prime film, Borat and Tutar arrive at a debutante ball in Macon, Georgia as Phillip Drummond III and Sandra Jessica Parker Drummond, respectively. For the comedic twist, the father and daughter dance for the well-behaved crowd, with the punchline being that Tutar ends up exposing herself in the mockumentary’s most graphic moment. Prior to the event, Borat seeks advice from Dr. Jean Sheffield, who states that “little braggings” are appropriate if communicated “graciously.”
As of now, Sheffield hasn’t commented about her appearance in Borat 2. However, Will Davis, the publisher for the Monroe County Reporter, wrote about his experiences after attending the debutante event. Davis states that he and his 18-year-old daughter Abbie were each paid $100 to attend the ball, which was supposed to be part of a movie about a young girl from Georgia (the country) who dreams of being a southern belle. According to Davis, the dance sequence wasn’t part of the alleged film, as the Georgian guests offered to perform a traditional dance after the shoot. Afterwards, he decided to split:
“That’s when all of us who were sober marched to the checkout desk, demanded our phones back and hit the road. My precious daughter and I walked out into the cool Macon night with mouths agape wondering what had just happened.”
Judith Dim Evans
In Borat 2, Cohen’s character plans to end his life at Temple Kol Emeth in Marietta, Georgia while dressed as “a typical Jew.” There, he meets Holocaust survivor Judith Dim Evans, who recalls her experiences and offers Borat a hug and a kiss. For the dark situational comedy, the joke is that Borat is depressed because he’s under the impression that the Holocaust wasn’t real (which means that his countrymen in Kazakhstan didn’t actually participate).
For obvious reasons, Cohen’s prank hasn’t gone over well with the family of Evans, who passed away before the film’s release. The estate filed a lawsuit against Amazon, but it was eventually dismissed in October 2020. According to Deadline, Cohen had someone tell Evans that he was actually Jewish and that the scene was designed for “Holocaust education.”
In Borat 2, Tutar arranges for an interview with Giuliani at the Mark Hotel in New York City. She flirts with the lawyer while discussing the COVID-19 pandemic, and Borat eventually rushes in the room disguised as audio technician. Tutar moves forward with the interview, and then invites her interviewee for a drink in the bedroom. The mockumentary’s most controversial moment comes when Giuliani lies down on a bed and appears to begin fondling himself, only to be surprised once again by Borat, who offers himself as a sexual partner.
Giuliani described the Borat 2 bedroom moment as a “complete fabrication.” On Twitter, he claimed that he was trying to tuck in his shirt, and also stated that he never acted inappropriately “before, during, or after” the interview.
Hillsborough Republican Women’s Club
Tutar experiences a major life epiphany at a Hillsborough Republican Women’s Club meeting. After being told that men tell lies “a lot,” she heads to the bathroom and inspects her body, with the joke being that Borat raised her to believe various myths about the female anatomy. Tutar then delivers a passionate speech about finding out that she wasn’t “sucked in” or “eaten.” The meeting attendees watch in astonishment and eventually clap after Tutar urges them to leave their “daddies.”
The Hillsborough Republican Women’s Club has yet to publicly comment about their appearance in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.
In Borat 2, Cohen’s character leaves Tutar with Oklahoma City babysitter Jeanise Jones so that he can make some money. Borat leaves a literal ball and chain with Jones, and says that the “strings” in Tutar’s brain can break if anyone tries to teach her. Jones ends up giving life advice to Tutar and urges her not to move forward with any type of plastic surgery.
On Facebook, Jones revealed that she was recruited for a “documentary.” She later states (via Independent) that she thought Tutar may have been the victim of a sex trade transaction. In a heart-warming development, fans of Borat 2 have raised over $178,000 for Jones, including a $100,000 donation from Cohen himself. Jones requested that the money be given to her community on behalf of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Alan “Randy” Knight
Borat receives a job at Wooten’s Barber Shop in Borat 2 and gives a haircut to Alan “Randy” Knight.” The man appears to be in on the joke, evidenced by his statement that “You do mostly animals, right?” and the fact that Borat cuts his hair with garden shears.
In Borat 2, Borat hopes to gain the attention of U.S. Vice President Mike Pence at the Conservative Political Action Conference. Specifically, he wants to offer Tutar as a potential bride. Borat crashes the event in a Donald Trump costume as Pence reveals to the audience that only 15 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in America, and that the risk remains “low.” Borat gets thrown out of the event, and then shifts his attention to the aforementioned Giuliani. In February 2020, reports identified Cohen as a “heckler.”
Dr. Charles Wallace
When Borat considers breast implants for Tutar in Borat 2, they visit with Dr. Charles Wallace of Beauty by Design in Dallas. The man goes along with Borat’s anti-semitic statements, even making jokes of his own about Jewish people. When Tutar asks if the plastic surgeon would make a “sex attack” on her, Wallace pauses and then says “If your father was not here.”
Wallace hasn’t yet commented about his appearance in Borat 2. However, it’s been revealed (via Task & Purpose) that he’s a Navy reservist. Commander Ben Tisdale stated that Wallace participated in the production “in his civilian capacity” and also noted that “To be clear, the Navy Reserve did not endorse Wallace’s participation in the film, nor did we endorse anything he said or did in the film.”
Jerry Holleman And Jim Russell
In the final act of Borat 2, Cohen’s character befriends the aforementioned Jerry Holleman and Jim Russell. Both men speak negatively about the Democratic party, and are framed as Americans who believe in QAnon conspiracy theories. At one point, Borat shows Jerry and Jim a disturbing pamphlet from the Kazakhstan Ministry of Agriculture and Wildlife; a moment that seems to confirm that the men are in on the joke, evidenced by their comments and Borat’s exaggerated reaction. Neither Holleman nor Russell have offered an official statement about their appearances in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.
